£205m A9 dualling contract up for grabs

The latest section of A9 dualling work has been tendered by Transport Scotland, with an estimated value of £205m.

The contract will see the successful supplier undertake the dualling work of roughly four miles of the A9 trunk road between Pitlochry and Killiecrankie.

The work also includes building or upgrading nine bridges and safe walking and wheeling crossing points.

Transport Scotland expects the work on this section to be completed by the end of 2030, which it says would mean that close to 50% of the road between Perth and Inverness would be dualled.

Procurement will begin with applications to take part in a ‘competitive dialogue’. A maximum of four candidates will be chosen to take part in the dialogue and submit tenders.

Transport secretary Fiona Hyslop said: ‘We are delivering on the commitments set in our delivery plan laid out in 2023 and this year we are really seeing work ramp up and with a further key milestone expected to be delivered later this year on the use of the Mutual Investment Model (MIM) for the remaining sections of A9 Dualling.’

The deadline to apply for the first stage of procurement is 4 September 2025, with successful candidates expected to be announced by 20 October. More information about the contract and how to apply can be found here.
