A66 works to start

A scheme to resurface and repair a two-and-half mile stretch of the A66 near Workington is due to start on Saturday (4 October).

The Highways Agency project to provide smoother journeys and improve safety will be carried out overnight to minimise the impact on traffic.

Peter Gee, project manager at the Highways Agency, said: “Anyone who has driven along the section of the A66 near Workington will know it’s beginning to show its age, so this work should help improve journeys.

“We’ll be carrying out the work overnight to keep the impact on motorists to a minimum, and will have a clearly signed diversion in place for anyone travelling along the road at night.”

Contractors on the A66 will resurface sections of the road, repaint road markings and install new reflective road studs, as well as replacing the high-friction surfaces leading up to the two roundabouts. The project is due to be completed by next Tuesday (7 October).
