Perth and Kinross Council has appointed BAM Nuttall to deliver stage one (detailed design and advance work) for the £118m Cross Tay Link Road, one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken by the council.
The new road will link the A9 over the River Tay to the A93 and A94 north of Scone and aims to unlock key development land and direct unnecessary traffic away from the city centre.
Stage one of the project, valued at just over £9m is expected to last up to a year; with construction (stage two) due to start afterwards.
BAM Nuttall said its submission included a number of important commitments that will benefit both the project and the local area - including an extensive package of community benefits, a pledge to pay all employees working on the project at least the Real Living Wage, and a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the scheme.
Council leader Murray Lyle said: ‘The appointment of BAM Nuttall for stage one of the Cross Tay Link Road is a significant step forward in the development of this major infrastructure project for Perth and Kinross.
‘BAM Nuttall has a proven track record of successful major infrastructure projects across the UK and beyond and I'm confident that the detailed design they create will allow us to meet our key goals for the Cross Tay Link Road enable new, planned and committed developments identified in the Local Development Plan; enable city centre improvements through the reduction in traffic volumes; and reduce journey times for local traffic.’
