Caernarfon to Bontnewydd bypass moves a step closer

Draft orders for the £91 million A487 Caernarfon to Bontnewydd bypass in Wales will be exhibited this week.  

The draft orders set out the land requirements and powers to construct the road, with assessments including an Environmental Statement also on show. It’s an opportunity for the documentation to be scrutinised locally and for the project team to explain the proposals.

Economy and Infrastructure Secretary Ken Skates said: “This is a major project to tackle one of the area’s biggest traffic congestion hotspots. The proposed scheme will provide a new 9.70km highway commencing at the most north westerly point of the existing A487 trunk road roundabout, and terminating at the Plas Menai Roundabout.

“The planned cost of the A487 Caernarfon to Bontnewydd Bypass scheme is £91m with the start of works planned for late 2017. It will help improve journey times and safety on the A487 as well as improving the quality of life for local residents. I’d encourage anyone with an interest in the proposed road to visit the exhibition.”
