Carnell achieves two million hours of safe working

Carnell is celebrating after passing the milestone of two million hours without one reportable incident.

Tied to this achievement is a zero AFR (annual rolling), which has been at the base-line level for well over two years.

Recent health and safety initiatives that Carnell have implemented include; improved banksman training (practical and theory aspects); enhanced

near-miss reporting process leading to a 90% increase in 12 months; independent health screening programme for all employees; SMARTcam safety camera van as a proven visual deterrent to vehicles entering traffic management.

Carnell’s chief executive Darren Nelson said: “Keeping the Carnell workforce safe is my number one priority and this remarkable achievement is down to our robust processes and the excellent safety culture embedded throughout the whole team. We will continue to improve the way we operate so that we can maintain this safety performance and reduce all incidents on site.”

Carnell partners with Highways England service providers to maintain the roads, structures, signage and other elements of road infrastructure.

The company recently won the Health & Safety at Work Award at the CIHT’s annual national awards ceremony.
