Denbighshire secures £4.8m from Welsh borrowing plan

Denbighshire County Council has secured £4.8m from a Welsh Government Local Government Borrowing Initiative (LGBI) for road maintenance between 2025 to 2027.

The North Wales authority has unveiled the areas in line to benefit from the cash injection. 

Work is planned to take place over 57 locations, with the county council targeting the funding towards surface improvements and associated works.

The LGBI was first introduced in 2012 and has been allocated £120m between 2025/26 and 2026/27 for Wales' 22 authorities.

Some of the significant works featured in the plan include improvements at the A525 Nany Y Garth pass, the A547 Abergele Road near Ruddlan and the Ty Newydd road in Rhyl.

Cllr Barry Mellor, lead member for environment and transport, said: ‘We are fully aware that the condition of Denbighshire’s road network is an issue that comes up regularly from our residents and we are extremely grateful to have this additional Welsh Government funding to allow us to do more over this programme to tackle improving routes across the county.’
