FM Conway expands operations after National Highways 'super success'

30/01/2023 | DOMINIC BROWNE

Kent-based powerhouse FM Conway has announced that it is expanding its operations after securing a place on the South and Central Super Regions of the £1.3bn Pavement Delivery Framework with National Highways.

The framework, which begins in March 2023 and runs for five years until March 2028, covers surfacing and pavement construction across the UK’s motorways and major A roads.

Well-known as one of the leading regional outfits in the business, FM Conway said the new framework will allow it to build upon its successful portfolio of collaboration with National Highways and expand into the Midlands.

'Having previously worked on smaller regional lots, FM Conway has significantly increased its area of operations, expanding to the Midlands, demonstrating a growing regional capacity to deliver,' the company said in a statement.

FM Conway has previously partnered with National Highways on a number of high-profile projectsin the South West, South East and the East of England, including pioneering the use of innovative recycled materials to deliver high-level carbon savings on the strategic road network.

This latest announcement marks another step change for the firm. CEO Adam Green said: 'This important partnership highlights the expansion in our strategic business operations as we move from delivering minor regional lots through the previous framework to now delivering super regions alongside other Tier one contractors.

'Our growth within National Highways highlights not only our performance but also our organisations shared ambitions and goals for the industry. Through sharing best practice, I am certain, together, we can achieve our net zero carbon targets.'

'The business has been selected in part for its focus on supply chain collaboration towards achieving net zero carbon working practices across the industry,' a spokesperson said.

FM Conway's offer includes extensive self-delivery expertise, ranging from bitumen supply and material laboratory testing through to the delivery of sustainable highways infrastructure improvements.

The company also has a leading history of driving materials innovation and delivering sustainable solutions. Its said its Technology Centre and its manufacturing and recycling facilities play a vital role in its commitment to innovation in sustainable material solutions and ensures that it can design, test, and produce these solutions to meet the needs of the new contract.

Duncan Smith, executive director of operations at National Highways, said: 'We are very happy to have secured this agreement, which is one of a number that have been signed as part of the framework. Engaging an increased range of organisations from across the industry is a hugely positive step for us, allowing us to expand our supply chain and improve our resilience.

'These contracts will also support our Net Zero Carbon Plan, which underpins all of our work now and in future years.'

The Pavement Delivery Framework replaces the current Pavements Framework which FM Conway has been delivering since 2018 and represents significant growth of the business’ existing relationship with National Highways.
