Greenwood gone from DfT in reshuffle

Lilian Greenwood has been moved from roads minister at the Department for Transport (DfT) to the Whips' office in the latest Cabinet reshuffle.

In a Facebook post, Ms Greenwood announced that she would now be serving as Vice-Chamberlain of HM Household (Government whip).

She said that she was ‘proud of the work’ she had done as roads minister, but that she was ‘excited to be returning to the Whips Office’ and to be working with Jonathan Reynolds and his new team.

Ms Greenwood was a popular choice for roads minister, having not only served as shadow transport secretary between 2015 and 2016, but also having chaired the Transport Select Committee from July 2017 to January 2020.

In her short time as minister she secured a funding uplift of £500m for 2025/2026 for local roads in England and set in place the start of a new transparency agenda for roads spending.  

The DfT announced on X (formerly Twitter) the appointment of Keir Mather, MP for Selby, who will be coming in as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the DfT.

Mr Mather has served as an MP since 2023, and prior to this position, he held the role of Assistant Government Whip since 2024.

All the other ministerial positions at the DfT are unchanged.
