Highways England has published the contract notice for its Area 10 maintenance and response contract, which could be worth up to £326m over fifteen years.
As reported previously on Highways, the contract is one of three contracts for the area, which could be the last to be let under Highways England’s current approach to bringing asset management back in-house.
Forthcoming deals for Area 10, which covers Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire, are a construction works framework with an estimated total value £220m and a design services contract worth up to £34m.
From March 2019, the successful maintenance and response contractor will be required to provide all routine and cyclic maintenance, incident response, defect rectification and severe weather delivery on the all-purpose trunk roads and motorways in Area 10 in accordance with Highways England’s standards and objectives.
Additional duties will also include: the provision of traffic management for the purpose of the contractor’s maintenance and response activities, this is to also include traffic management during incidents and where instructed by Highways England; the facilities maintenance of depots and other locations within the Area 10 region.
The contract notice cites a value of £325,950,000 with a duration of 186 months (fifteen and a half years).
Last Autumn it was announced that a Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald joint venture had secured a £115m extension on its old-style Asset Support Contract for Area 10 valued at £115m, to run from November 2017 to March 2019.
