Highways SIB: Less than two weeks to go

There are less than two weeks to go until this year’s Highways SIB (Seeing is Believing) – Europe’s only event for indoor showcasing of highway products as well as outdoor demonstrations in all lighting conditions.

Delegates will be given the chance to talk with key personnel from Highways England – the government-owned company tasked with delivering the £15 billion Road Investment Strategy. Chief executive Jim O’Sullivan is a keynote speaker on the first day of the event and will update attendees on how things are progressing.

And with an ambitious government target of attracting 30,000 apprentices into road and rail by 2020, this year’s event sees the introduction of an Apprenticeship/skills zone offering local students the chance to come along and find out about all the exciting opportunities that the sector has to offer. So far more than 100 civil engineering students from Liverpool John Moores University and Wolverhampton University have registered to attend the event. The zone is formed of the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).

Roads Minister Andrew Jones will officially open the event and take questions from the audience. Attendees can also join in lively debates on road worker safety, asset management, technology, the resilience of local roads, and the future of HMEP.

Highways SIB also features two full days’ of live full-scale outdoor demonstrations and displays covering maintenance, safety, technology, lighting, signage and road markings.

The event is being held at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire from 9-10 November 2016.
