Sweeptech has acquired fleet provider Go Plant from administration, saving over a hundred jobs, although many more have faced redundancy.
Selected Go Plant depots, plant and vehicle hire fleet have been bought by Sweeptech – a Sussex-based environmental services company.
The deal is understood to have saved around 116 jobs; however, this leaves an undisclosed number of redundancies that could run to hundreds.
Go Plant had employed more than 400 staff and its remaining sites were closed following the appointment of administrators because no buyer could be found.
Road sweeper hire specialist Go Plant had filed a notice of intention to appoint an administrator earlier this year along with its sister company, Go Plant Fleet Services.
In Go Plant's financial accounts for the year to the end of June 2022, it reported a turnover of close to £44.8m, which amounted to an operating loss of £3.2m, with net assets valued at £17.2m.
The administrators said they were 'delighted to have completed a sale of certain depots across the north of England to a strategic buyer, preserving substantial employment'.
'We will work closely to support those unfortunately made redundant following the appointment of administrators,' they added.
Sweeptech said the 'strategic move solidifies our position as the sole national provider of road sweeping and waste management services'.
