Lafarge Tarmac wins two-year contract extension in Walsall

Lafarge Tarmac has been awarded a two-year extension on its existing highways repair and maintenance contract with Walsall Council.

The Solihull-based firm secured the contract in March 2009 for an initial period of four years, with the possibility of two, two-year extensions. The company was awarded the first two-year extension in 2012 and has now secured the final extension which will see it deliver highways repairs and maintenance until April 2017.

Councillor Lee Jeavons, cabinet member for environment and transport for Walsall Council, said: "We’re pleased to extend our partnership with Lafarge Tarmac which is helping us to maintain around 530 miles of roads. This network has been valued at around £1.4 billon which makes it by far the most valuable asset owned, managed and maintained by the council.

"This contract covers many areas that we know are extremely important to our residents and we’ll be working close with Lafarge Tarmac to ensure that work is carried out to a high standard, within agreed timescales, and with minimum disruption to local residents."

Since 2009, Lafarge Tarmac has worked with the Council delivering a variety of quality services including footway and carriageway surfacing, winter maintenance, 24-hour highways emergency support, gully cleansing and pothole repairs.
