MP calls for M56 resurfacing

A Cheshire MP is campaigning to have the M56 resurfaced, in a bid to reduce traffic noise in his constituency.

Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans said the road, which passes Frodsham, Helsby, Sutton Weaver, Runcorn and Preston Brook, was becoming busier and noisier.

He said resurfacing it with a more modern material would halve the audible sound level from the motorway.

Evans has started a petition which he intends to hand to the Highways Agency.

He said: "The problem is particularly bad for residents in Frodsham and Helsby where their hills amplify the motorway noise even more. Residents want to see action on this issue.

"I am calling for this section of the M56 running through my constituency to be resurfaced with special 'whisper quiet' motorway surfaces.

"It would only be a small change, but it would make a big difference to local residents."
