Maintenance to take place on Sheppey Crossing

Resurfacing of the Sheppey Crossing on the A249 in Kent will take place later this month.

Work will start on the northbound carriageway on 28 March and is due, weather permitting, to be finished by the following day. This work originally started in November 2014 but was halted due to adverse weather conditions.

Highways Agency asset manager Kevin Bown said: “The Sheppey Crossing is a major route for the people of north Kent so it is extremely important that we maintain it to the highest standards for road users. The work we are doing will help to reduce the likelihood of unplanned closures in the future.”

The Sheppey Crossing was the scene of a 150-car pile-up in September 2013.
