Wiltshire Council has awarded Milestone Infrastructure a five-year highways maintenance services contract worth at least £80m, with potential to extend for a further five.
The firm said it will make the county’s roads more resilient by maintaining bridges, verges, carriageways and footways. Works will also include gully and drain cleaning, pothole repairs, sweeping and winter and emergency maintenance works.
Milestone will also be delivering and managing Wiltshire’s street lighting requirements, ‘offering sustainable, low energy and cost-efficient lighting’.
The firm will be employing 20 Parish Stewards to deliver small local highways priority works in the towns and parishes. These were a feature of the previous contract with Ringway, which started in 2016.
Business director Anne Roberts said: ‘This is a great win for Milestone Infrastructure. Delivering sustainable highways maintenance services, Milestone Infrastructure is excited to help Wiltshire reach its goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.
‘Winning this contract enables us to continue our journey towards building and maintaining safer, greener highways for all.’
Dr Mark McClelland, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for transport, said: ‘We’re delighted to be working with Milestone Infrastructure for the next five years following a robust procurement process.
‘We’re looking forward to working in partnership to maintain and improve highways throughout the county, while also meeting our carbon neutral climate ambitions.’
Milestone said that as part of its commitment to social value, it will be working closely with the council, delivering benefits to the local economy and engaging with disadvantaged groups.
It will be engaging with people with special educational needs and disabilities, as well as care leavers, to offer employment and training opportunities.
