Mouchel wins third successive highways contract in Shropshire

Mouchel has bagged a highways and engineering consultancy deal with Shropshire Council that could be worth more than £20m to the consultant.

Mouchel has provided highways advice to Shropshire Council for the last 15 years and the new deal is the third successive contract between the two parties.

Claire Wild, the council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Mouchel has been appointed as our service provider again following a rigorous prequalification and tendering process. We are looking forward to working with them under this new contract to continue delivering good customer and community service outcomes.”

The latest highways and transport engineering consultancy contract is valued at £3m a year and will run for an initial three-year period but with an option to extend for a further four years.

“This is a significant win for Mouchel,” said Jeremy Wray, the consultant’s operating group director for highways and transportation. “Securing a local highways authority contract for a third time in succession is almost unheard of.”

Mouchel initially started working for Shropshire Council in 2000 by providing consultancy on core highways, bridges and traffic engineering services. Since then, the consultant’s scope of work has expanded and the latest contract includes extra services such as flood and water management, highways development control and asset management.

The new contract starts in April.
