New apprenticeships recruitment drive from Tarmac

15/03/2016 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Tarmac has announced the creation of up to 50 new apprenticeships for 2016 to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week which is taking place from 14-18 March.

This includes nine higher apprentices that contribute to Apprenticeship Week’s ‘Pledge-o-meter’, which shows how many apprenticeships are being created by businesses throughout the country.

Dan Andrews, 21, works for Tarmac’s Contracting business, after having successfully completed his apprenticeship with them. Dan said: “Tarmac’s apprenticeship programme has given me more opportunities than I ever hoped. My contribution was valued and everyone was incredibly supportive of my studies, all of which helped me to be named by my college as intermediate business services apprentice of the year - something I never thought I’d achieve.”

Martin Riley, senior vice president of Tarmac said: “I started as an apprentice at Tarmac, so I’m first hand proof of the fantastic opportunities for career progression that our business offers. I’m proud of the work we do to build Britain, and count myself lucky to work alongside 7,000 colleagues who share this passion. I believe that we offer exciting opportunities for young people who want to make their mark and be part of a winning team.”

Tarmac’s apprentices will be recruited from across UK, in a broad range of roles including technical placements, sites operatives, electrical and mechanical roles, business administration and commercial opportunities.

Each apprenticeship lasts between two and four years, including a year of vocational training at a local college. As well as receiving expert on-site technical training in their chosen discipline, successful candidates benefit from competitive salaries and the opportunity for career progression as part of a global business.
