New code for better road crack sealing

The Road Surface Treatments Association has set out best practice procedures for  crack sealing and joint repair systems for road surfaces.

The new best practice code should maximise the performance and durability of seals, extending the life of the road surface by making it more resistant to freeze and thaw cycles.

Howard Robinson, RSTA chief executive, said: “Crack sealing and joint repair systems are extremely useful in reinstating the road surface and protecting it from premature degradation.

"By providing definitive best practice guidance on the correct way to specify and apply crack sealing and joint repairs, the new Code of Practice shows how to get the best out of these road surface treatments.”

The Code  has been peer reviewed and endorsed by ADEPT.

It covers overbanding, repair and sealing of open of fretted joints and wide cracks and inlaid crack repair systems as used for the repair of single or multiple cracks.

The processes are examined in detail and set out best practice guidance and technical specifications.

Planning, co-ordination, health and safety, environmental and work execution responsibilities of client, contractor and installer are outlined and full reference is made to the relevant regulations, standards and training qualifications.
