New collaboration platform for Safe System practitioners

Road Safety GB and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) have launched a new platform to support sector-wide collaboration on the Safe System approach to road safety.

The Safe System Practitioner Network will serve as a central hub where resources, contacts and information can be shared on the internationally recognised best practice model for eliminating road deaths and serious injuries.

With the foundations for the network already established with several transport authorities, the plan is to ‘publish more strategies when they are produced and add to the resources and contacts,’ according to James Gibson, executive director of Road Safety GB.

He added: ‘We have been delighted to work with PACTS on this joint project. The Safe System Practitioner Network on the Knowledge Centre helps to bring together information in one place.'

The Practitioner Network will host a ’10 steps to create a Safe System’ guide, with best practice case studies to show how members have been implementing evidence-based approaches directly linked to the safe system.

Deputy executive director of PACTS, Margaret Winchcomb, said: ‘The whole essence of the Safe System is based on shared responsibility and collaboration.

'We’re very pleased that this network means the local road safety partnerships, which have committed themselves to delivering on a strategy based on the Safe System now have a way to establish connections with others and share knowledge, and challenges.’

The network will be hosted via the Road Safety GB Knowledge Centre, a web-based library that is available for free.
