Construction materials supplier Aggregate Industries has acquired road surfacing and highway maintenance contractor Northumbrian Roads Limited.
Aggregate, a member of the LafargeHolcim Group, described the firm has having ‘a very strong presence in the North East market, due to their two large asphalt plants in the Port of Tyne and the Port of Sunderland’.
It said the acquisition is in line with its Strategy 2022, 'Building for Growth', and will allow it to strengthen its market position in order to support the major infrastructure schemes that will help the economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
CEO Guy Edwards said: ‘We have been very impressed with the Northumbrian Roads Limited business. They share the same values; including a strong health and safety culture and their expertise and approach to customer service, so I believe that they will be a great addition to our portfolio.
