Nottingham firm wins road improvement contracts

Nottingham-based Thomas Bow City Asphalt is set to carry road improvements in Lincolnshire, Nottingham and Derbyshire after securing almost £30 million worth of contracts over the last year.

The civil engineering and surfacing company is set to work on a number of local authority framework contracts in the East Midlands which will run over the next two to three years.

It is one of the firms responsible for delivering a multi-million pound framework contract covering the resurfacing of key roads in Lincolnshire until 2016. The company is also working with Derby and Nottingham City Councils and Derbyshire County Council on other long-term road contracts with an expected total value of around £16 million.

In addition to a contract worth around £5m to carry out resurfacing work associated with the landmark tram network expansion project in Nottingham, Thomas Bow has won a £2m deal to reconstruct a long-stay car park at Birmingham Airport.

Managing director, Alistair Bow, said: “The past few years have been tough for the UK construction industry, particularly for firms working with the public sector.

“It now looks like the sector is starting to pick up and we’re delighted to have secured this scale of additional business over recent months. The nature of many of the contracts means that it will guarantee work for 2014 and a few years beyond. This has to be good news as we look towards continued growth.”
