Riders at the ready for the Highways Awards

21/04/2022 | CHRIS AMES

The free online submission process has opened for the 2022 Highways Awards, featuring an exciting new category.

The highlight of the sector's calendar, the event returns on Wednesday 19 October to a new venue – the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster, Central London – to bring together more than 600 highways heroes for a black-tie gala dinner and night of celebration.

Now in their 19th year, these prestigious awards recognise the outstanding achievements of the people, teams and projects that have gone above and beyond to keep our country moving.

Reflecting the current emphasis on improving the uptake of walking and cycling, a new active travel category has been added this year.

The Active Travel Scheme of the Year Award - sponsored by Clearview Intelligence – will be awarded to an organisation, highway authority or joint submissions.

This award will be judged on both the entry’s qualitative and quantitative impact and will cover design, use, and safety criteria.

In addition, this year sees the return of established and popular categories:

  • Apprentice of the Year Award
  • Best Use of New Technology Award
  • Environmental Sustainability Award
  • Highway Partnership Award
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Maintenance Efficiency Award
  • Major Project Award
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing Award
  • Product of the Year Award
  • Road Safety Scheme of the Year Award
  • Site Safety Initiative Award
  • Steve Berry Highways Authority Innovation Award
  • Team of the Year Award
  • Winter Maintenance Award
