SRL scores brace of partnerships

04/11/2021 | DOMINIC BROWNE

SRL Traffic Systems has formalised two new commercial partnerships, including becoming SWARCO Traffic's official strategic hire partner.

The partnership is an extension of the ongoing relationship between the two businesses, which has seen over 400 SWARCO signs added to the SRL fleet for use on roads throughout the UK and Ireland.

SWARCO models are compatible with Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC) programmes and can also be managed via a cloud-based mobility management platform.

John Pickworth, managing director of SWARCO Traffic, said: 'This partnership has been agreed with our respective customers in mind, enabling them to benefit from market-leading SWARCO technology, as well as the truly bespoke flexibility and fast-paced service that SRL is able to provide.

'Together, we will make access to temporary sign installations simpler, faster, and more effective.'

SRL’s hire division managing director, Malcolm Johnstone: 'We offer the UK and RoI’s largest distribution network of 30 depots and are available to customers on site 24/7, 365 days a year. We are delighted to extend our relationship with SWARCO, swiftly and efficiently providing customers with the best VMS on the market.'

The signage meets all relevant highways standards including UKCA Certification to EN12966, the mandatory safety requirement for mobile, temporary and permanent VMS on UK highways. The signs have also been registered with Traffic Open Products and Specifications (TOPAS).

SRL has also signed an exclusive partnership with barrier, gate and bollard manufacturer, Solar Gates UK.

As a result, SRL now hires out INSTABOOM (pictured above), the solar/hybrid instant work zone protection barriers. The well-established product is used throughout the UK, including on smart motorways and HS2 projects, and can be remotely operated and monitored.

Gordon Walters, superintendent, roads and infrastructure services at Aberdeen City Council, said: 'We have been using the INSTABOOM traffic incursion barriers for a few weeks now and have found we have fewer interruptions from motorists asking if they can come through the site to access a property that is at the furthest end of the road.

'The operation of the gate is overseen by one of the operatives on site, which makes it safer if access is required by a resident or emergency service vehicle as they can inform the workers that a vehicle will be entering the work zone.

'Since the installation, the workforce feel safer as they know there is no chance of a vehicle entering the work area unless it has been permitted by the person in charge of the site. With this on site, coupled with CCTV, there have been no incidents of random vehicles and or irate motorists entering the site to complain they need to use this road.

'This installation is highly visible and looks very official, which deters road users from trying to enter a closed road. I would recommend this for use on any site where interaction with the public is limited and does not put any staff member in a position where they could be put at risk.'

Companies already using the product include FM Conway, Highway Traffic Management, Tarmac and Balfour Beatty.
