Safer speed restrictions for A120

National Highways has begun reducing the speed limit from 60mph to 50mph on the A120 in Essex, to help prevent collisions.

The £2.6m project plans to see the new speed restriction put in place between Horsley Cross and Parkeston, with six new average speed cameras to enforce the new restrictions.

National Highways has also stated that responsibility for the enforcement lies ‘with the relevant local police force’.

The work, which is expected to be completed by autumn this year, will take place largely overnight between 9pm and 5am, although there will be full closures needed, the first having taken place on 23 June.

Martin Fellows, National Highways regional director for the East region, said: ‘Our ambition remains that no one should be harmed while travelling or working on our roads.

‘This route was chosen based on collision data and local insights and overall these changes will aim to make this road safer for all users.’
