TfL launches 'green' academy

Transport for London (TfL) has launched a new green technology training academy to address ‘the growing demand for workers with green skills’.

The Green Plant Academy has been designed to focus on zero-emission vehicle training, with TfL adding that it will help to support emerging green technologies and low-carbon machinery.

As the first and only dedicated construction vehicle training facility in London, TfL states that this new academy marks an ‘ambitious new partnership’, including companies such as The Skills Centre, JCB, FM Conway, L Lynch and the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Learners attending the academy are expected to receive fully-funded, industry-recognised training, supported by CITB and delivered in partnership with the National Open College Network (NOCN).

Howard Dawber, deputy mayor of London for business and growth, said: ‘During London Climate Action Week we’ve been celebrating our progress but also discussing the scale of the challenge we face, and this new facility will be a real asset as we continue working to create a greener and more prosperous London for everyone.’
