Traffic calming at killer junction

Councils are cutting speed limits and introducing more traffic calming measures at Leadburn junction in Scotland where a number of drivers have lost their lives.


The speed limit on routes leading up to the junction where the A701, A703 and A6094 meet is being cut to 40mph

Midlothian Council and Scottish Borders Council both have plans to cut the limit to 40mph from 60mph on their roads around the site.

There have been 15 reported accidents in and around Leadburn Junction over the past three years.

As well as the new speed limit, plans to introduce rumble strips and other speed-reducing measures are also being taken forward.

Two years ago an 87-year-old woman from the Borders died in a crash at the site.

And in 2005 a motorist was killed when a car crashed into the historic Leadburn Inn near the junction, causing a fire which destroyed the building.
